Adventures of Jalen and other pets

Hello everybody. I decided to make a journal on all my pets but mainly betta fish. I have two bettas and soon a 3rd (cycling with pure ammonia right now). I do have a master test kit to test water on all tanks.

I successfully beat fin rot on Jalen, it’s on the fish diseases and emergency forum. I recently came from there. Im still monitoring fins just because it’s a good idea. He’s a beautiful blue/red veiltail. I got him late November.

Another fish I have is Rocky. Rocky is a red/white maybe peach? crowntail. Ive had him for 6 months. Im not sure of age. He has bloat issues but it’s mostly controlled.

Yes they got their own tanks, filters, heaters and their own gravel vaccs just in case one got seriously ill. I will be posting pics soon.

It’s unfortunate that Rocky is SIP. I got a some pics of him. I guess it’s just Jalen and pets now.

Here’s Jalen. I can’t post Rocky right now. It’s too hard to look at his pictures. Probably a bit thin but we’re working on it. He’s a rescue from unfavorable conditions.

Jalen is clown lol. He got a bit too excited about me handing food down that he jumped into my hand. I don’t have a pic of that wish I did it was funny. He’s not hurt he’s ok. I try not to touch him but sometimes he’s so eager about food. I do hand feed sometimes I was under the impression that’s not too bad. I mean I did nurse him back to health. I have an old pic of Jalen in my tank with plastic plants before switching them out to silk. I’ll get new pics soon and I’ll post them then.

I thought fin rot had cropped back up. Luckily it was just algae that came off a plant onto the tail that he flicked off his fin. It was an interesting sight I had never seen that. I gotta clean those silk plants. Anyway another winter storm is coming so I will have to do some things before it hits. Im actually home alone tonight till tomorrow because my mom had to work out of town. I have a friend coming over to spend the night because Im anxious alone all night especially with a storm coming. Besides my friend loves seeing Jalen’s progression on recovery. Tail fin is still white/clear (depending on how the light hits it, it’s either white or clear) it even grew longer eventually I’ll see color I’ll show you tomorrow if I can.

Nope, don’t mind! I found that I just lightly scrub and it all comes off. It’s green algae and usually a quick swipe is all that’s needed. I never had a live plant. I had plastic which was a rookie mistake but it was what I had after my African dwarf frogs passed away and they were fine with them. They died of old age nothing serious.

my bearded dragon seems grumpy tonight he must feel the storm pressure. I have pics of him. Jalen is asleep as it’s light’s out. He’ll stress a bit if I turn it on before 10am. So enjoy a bearded dragon pic for now. He’s 8 years old.

His name is Broly. Im still a Dragon Ball Z fan. I don’t know about Dragon Ball super though haha.

You’re welcome! My first time with silk. I don’t know just never had any issues.

I should take farther away pics lol. Camera picks up my other animals fine. Maybe because Jalen is smaller in pics I don’t know. I found white dots on the tail now I know what you’re thinking…aren’t those bad? Well it’s with the white/clear film stuff and I haven’t seen deteriorating fins. I think it’s healing tissue inside the fins like the rays? I don’t know it didn’t go away with the other fin rot symptoms and nothing is happening as far as I see it. I check fins every day and so far no setback. Im not 100% sure what they are. Definitely not ich it’d be much worse by now. It came with fin rot but didn’t go away with fin rot. I can’t get pics of it because you have to stare at him to catch it in the light then you see it. It’s invisible when he’s away from the tank light. Doesn’t seem to spread to other fins or body just on the tail. It’s been there as long as fin rot has but the infection itself is gone. You won’t see it I promise you that.

His tail is looking good really wish to get good pics. I really need a better camera. It’s healing nicely despite the questionable white dots. I read ich well they’re just localized on the healing parts of the tail. It makes me think it’s part of the healing process. No multiplication. I read fin rot causes white dots too. Yet nothing is happening I already treated for it. He’s a happy fish no stress so I don’t know. draws sword I will take you down, again if needed.

I just done a water change 50% I usually do and it never messes with the cycle. It still runs as normal. It sucks to see bits of algae to float around after I pour water back in. The water looks dirty for a while and it’s obvious I can’t get everything out unless 100% was to happen. Don’t worry I don’t ever do 100. It’s only 30-50%. Im only sucking out poop and algae, food rarely gets under gravel. I don’t overfeed and I make sure he sees every pellet, shrimp or worm. Tonight is worms he’ll love that. I soak in Seachem’s Nourish I was told some vitamins leach out.

Yeah he’s fine. Jalen acts normal. Ive been monitoring. Im sorry it should have been D&E. He’s fine though, big appetite and acts normal. He never acts sick even with fin rot lol. He’s always full of energy so I might go back to D&E.

DragonBall is an anime. Thanks I thought his name was cool too.

Yup, everything is cool as long as I don’t see anything different in his crazy behavior or appearance I’ll just leave it be, thanks for the advice.
I rescued him from people who neglected him really bad. Underfed, never changed his water in a fish bowl, had ich and fin rot. He was just in a bad state upon meeting him, much like how Rocky was found except he had columnaris.

He’s definitely so happy. He never acted ill in anyway which makes his story much more unbelievable! He was in less than a foot of water. Poor boy tried to swim he was stuck at the bottom. They didn’t care about him.

With Rocky, he had ich, velvet, columnaris and severe fin rot. He died peacefully at least like to think so. He was clean nothing wrong with him. I don’t know how old he was though, probably 1 yr or less. I tried my best with him. He died in a loving home who tried to help him.

Been monitoring its all good he’d be worse if it was what I thought it was.

Anyway, he bumped his floating log. This tells me it’s almost time to eat. I look at the clock 20 mins till 2pm how does he know it’s almost time? I guess bettas can tell time.

Fed my bearded dragon and tarantula. I think the tarantula about to have babies. I set up another tank for them when they’re ready to move. Yes I breed these guys. I always get people interested mostly kids because they think it’s cool lol. I don’t sell them to just anyone though.

My future project when the time and money is right I will breed bettas. Healthy male and female in the future. I don’t mean Jalen and a girl. Im not saying Jalen can’t mate it’s just he’s still recovering from fin rot. He never shows interest in mating no bubble nest ever. I understand not every male makes a nest for the eggs. I guess I won’t know if he’s ever interested lol. I gotta go feed him he’s already at the top of the tank waiting for his Omega one pellets today.

Costa Rican Zebra or Striped leg tarantula. They have two different names. Jalen watches her when she’s out (her tank next to his) but she hasn’t been lately. I think she’ll lay her egg sac soon. She’s hidden before the egg sac was discovered. I only bother her when I believes she’s hungry. She’ll eat sometimes. The breeding hobby eases my anxiety (I have nighttime anxiety) also the hamster helps easing that a bit too. I only breed one animal I used to breed African dwarf frogs. Im thinking in a couple days I’ll see the sac and start monitoring how it goes with the babies and give updates and possibly pics of the sac if she’ll let me probably not she prefers not to he disturbed during this time.

Here’s Jalen in all his glory. Second pic shows the second bite that’s healing finally, tiny spike there but the first bite all healed up.

I have IAL in there water looks clear I know. In a different light it looks a bit yellow/brownish.

He either ripped or nipped his tail! Ugh it was almost healed…but how did he rip it? Idk. Definitely not fin rot or those dots because everything was fine up until now. He had his tail intact this morning and my mom said this afternoon too. I’ll show pics tomorrow as I got home late. He’s just one of those fish that ruin their tail because too heavy. He’s a veil tail so I didn’t think his tail was too heavy. Crazy fish man I might do extra water changes to keep fin rot at bay. I can’t believe he did it again after it almost healed up bite completely healed. He apparently just keeps his tail for a while then ruin it somehow. Geez Jalen why man LOL. Well gotta keep watch on it now.

I guess this is how he is and my life checking for fin issues lol.

I ruined his bubble nests yes he’s made multiple lol. I didn’t mean to the dang IAL got in the way and clogged up my gravel vacc. I had to unclog so I could suck up water. In the end it’s a disaster…I didn’t get any poop just water..so what I did was take my turkey baster and went around and sucked up any poop I saw. I found 3…so they’re gone.

Dang leaves kept clogging me up. Water stopped going and in turn started going back into the tank blowing back all the poop everywhere. I got a few at least. Ammonia should be fine and shouldn’t show up I always spot clean poop whenever I see them. Any I don’t see go with water changes which unfortunately didn’t happen this week but happy I got a few of them out. I’ll be on the lookout and may just do a 25% somewhere in the coming week and will move the leaves next time. It’s time I replace them anyway.

Do bubble nests fall apart? I guess they do because the bubbles all spread out before lights on. He’s rebuilding it. I hadn’t seen a nest since I was 12-13.
I don’t remember if they fall apart or not.
I have a pic of his bite on the tail and bubble nest. I know it’s a bubble nest because bubble are stacking on each other. It didn’t look like this morning.

Been a while had a bit of a freak out but it’s a hole in his tail lol. Telling ya he’s just very good at doing things to his tail from one minute to the next. I’ll just get some pics and more silk plants. He’s probably gonna go in my cycling tank there’s sand in there. When it’s cycled not during this fish got enough issues don’t need ammonia joining the list of problems. I saved him from fin rot not gonna hurt him now. My female is here well been here been watching her and she’s in Rocky’s old tank. So her name is Nina off of an anime. She’s a cutie and grumpy lol. Jalen sees her and the bubblenests been going crazy! She just got here 3 weeks ago, pretty sure she doesn’t wanna mate right now. I don’t have money for babies anyway. I don’t know maybe she does. She’s a wonderful girl. Pics soon.
Egg sac has been moved to another tank, incubating. I moved it because I feel she’d probably eat them. I don’t ever risk it and the babies always survive without the mother.

Nina is the female betta. She’s doing her thing. She’s also from a breeder so should be healthier then pet store fish. Jalen blowing nests like crazy possibly hoping I put Nina in there to get her eggs.

It’s the plastic grass in his tank causing a hole. I thought since they float all over it wouldn’t hurt so I took them out. There is one plastic plant under the filter because I was cleaning the silk lol some slimy stuff on it so I removed and put the plastic for now as the filter blows him around. That plant in there for less than 1 hour so don’t worry. He barely goes near it. I have a pic of his bubble nest.

I need Nina and egg sac pics. She wasn’t happy about me messing around with her terrarium getting her sac. I felt she wanted to lunge at me and bite! She definitely earned her name Rampage lol. She does go on a rampage if she’s unhappy about anything. She named herself my mom thought Rampage was good because her reaction to things. She didn’t bite me but she definitely gave my hand death glares.

Excuse the grass this is before I took them out. He’s making his nest for Nina.

His tail growing back in places he’s bit up. Eating well enjoys NLS and Omega, I rarely throw in Hikari Bio Gold pellets. It’s for variety, I know it’s not the best. He has the other two pellets he eats more of, of course bloodworms/shrimp and daphnia. I bought a new turkey baster for dropping food in as my old one was getting nasty. I have my old one now sucking up poop while the other is for food. Much healthier this way.

Nina flaunting her stuff and Jalen sees her. He blows bubbles like crazy! Anyway I gotta go because being sick sucks.
