I've spoke to my science teacher about finding ammonia and he was saying something about ammonia vs. ammonium hydroxide. He said he assumes I would want just ammonia because ammonium is a base and bacteria don't get nutritional value or something from it?

Can someone explain to me which I would use to cycle my tanks and why?

Household ammonia is a dilute solution of 10% ammonium hydroxide-This is what is used for a fish-less cycle.

Do you know what the difference between ammonia and ammonium hydroxide is? I have seen different things regarding which one to use.

Technically ammonia in water is called Ammonia Hydroxide

Haha, oh. Wow. Asking my science teacher did nothing but confuse me. Just to be clear, can I use either or to cycle the tank?
