My sorority is doing pretty well but I'd like some more movement. Much of the time when I look at my tank I don't really see anything. I'm just curious what I could add if I could get the husband to agree to adding more fish.

20g long, cycled with a 60g filter (I had a goldfish tank but it broke so the filter was recycled).

No live plants

7 female bettas

1 ADF (I haven't seen this guy much. There is a lot of cover and he is very, very shy)

1 Ghost shrimp (I had 7 but I think a few were too small and got nommed)

Where in the tank would you like to see more movement? Cory cats would scavenge the bottom in groups, and they're fun to watch. They also have a very good track record as far as being kept with bettas.

I think mid to top area, my girls tend to hang in the back by the filter for some weird reason.

I've never tried them with bettas, but Rummynose tetras are a nice schooling fish. They're very hardy and fast, so they might be fine with bettas, depending on the betta's personality.

Neon tetras are also pretty cool! They look gorgeous when they swim together in a group. I have some with my sorority ^^

Hmm neons would be easier to find as well! They're such a classic community fish, love 'em.

In my community tank I have zebra danios with my betta sorority. They are great as they are very active. They help keep my bettas distracted as they are swimming everywhere. I also have platys as they are calm and mellow. Plus they are very colourful.

Ohh, platys! I had those when I was a kid! Would they end up breeding in the tank?

Depends on if you just get all females or not. I have 2 males and 4 females. The females look bigger than the males so they might be. This may sounds cruel but I'm not worried. If they do end up having babies I am just going to let nature take its course, survival of the fittest. I'm doing that because I dont have any spare tanks. If I did I would take the babies out.
However 2 years ago I had platys and one day I noticed babies in the tank. They survived for a while in there until I was able to catch them and put them in a separate tank. The babies were able to find good hiding spots and became tough little guys.

Mmhm, that's what I was thinking. It would just be a matter of feeding the girls carefully (and maybe my shy frog would actually get some food). My tank has a decent amount of cover but if some babies happen to make it a while then that is great.

Good plan. Can't wait to hear about the new tank mates. I'm kinda hoping mine are pregnant because I want some little baby platys. Plus I know a few friends that would take them once they are big enough.

Once I clean out my 10g and get it set up to QT I'll probably run out and get some fishies :3

That's awesome that you have friends who would take some of them! I don't think too many of my friends are really into fish. I think they're either too busy or too intimated (it IS a lot of physical work). Otherwise I'd breed my bettas.

Hahaha yeah I got them into fish :p They aren't too keen on bettas (boo!), but they love the platies.
I actually just checked my platies and I think 2 are pregnant. One is a red wag and the other is a sunburst. The sunburst you can see the eggs as she is yellow colour, but with my other one its harder as she is a deep red.

I ended up with four platys and 5 neon tetras. I wanted more but $2 a neon when I wasn't sure how they would do as they are really small.. I wasn't gonna do $20 on fish that might not live.

There was also a really cute girl up at Petsmart (they never have nice looking girls) so I couldn't really say no.

No one told me how much platys poop though D: There's strings of poop everywhere lol I had originally had one 60g filter on my tank but with how much these platys are pooping I added my second one though this time I secured the intake as I had a mishap before with it.

Everyone is getting along fine. QT was kinda short cause I needed the tank for something else in an emergency but after nearly five days with everyone looking good I took my chances.

The two aggressive girls seemed to have calmed down a bit (why are reds so darn aggressive?), I'm guessing just because there's so much more going on in the tank. It really is lovely to look at. I wish I could get a three or four foot long tank and fill it with stuff :3

Platys

They were schooling together the first day and now they're just going around alone lol

They don't seem overly intimidated by the girls as I thought they would be. I am dropping in my .5mm Thera formula NLS pellets for them when I feed everyone.

Sorry about the flash :X

So I feel like I have pretty adequate cover. I'd like to get some tall live plants for that right front side and maybe some floating plants.

I freaked out last night though because I was watching my shrimp and in the back of the tank I saw the frog chomping down on something huge. I scooped him up real quick and looked around for the neons. All five accounted for so I have NO idea what he was eating. Maybe the shrimp's molted skin? I really don't like the frog x.x I might set up the 10g now that it is clear again for just frogs for my son. It's HIS frog anyway. though I'd still be taking care of it maybe I could add another male to my collection :3 If it's for my son... well, we'll see lol
