I currently have my Betta in a 1 gallon tank but will be upgrading him to a 5 or 10 within a week or 2. Until then I wanted to add a live plant as I heard it makes the Betta fish more happy. I know certain plants require a lot of maintenance but theres one I been reading about, I can't think of the name ATM is starts with a A... I have to find the bookmark page. But it says it requires no food or strong lighting and grows fine.

But I would like to know if live plants are suitable for a 1 gallon? If so what plants?

To answer your question YES, live plants will do just fine in 1 gallon.
Java fern, moneywort, hornwort, and several others will look great and be just fine.

Java fern, java moss, anubias (I think the one you mean), cryptos, wisteria.

Java fern left to float makes a wonderful 'platform' for bettas to lounge on.

Yes thats exactly the plant I was talking about. Anubias. I couldn't think of the name right away I originally was going to post annahlias lmao way off thank goodness I didn't =p
