Are these females?

If these are yours (you bred them), compare:

Top view:
1. females have smaller and pointy (small mouths) heads compared to males
2. when they flare, gill covers usually do not open 90° (few females do)
3. Females look bigger at midsection while males are more smooth from front to back - unless they are rather thin

4. If they are old enough (4 months or more) and have been jarred for some time, most males will lose the egg spot.
5. Though I can seldom tell, people say you can see egg sack on females.
6. When young (below 4 months - for future reference), darker females show breeding bars when they flare or color up.

breeding bars at around 5 months, especially in sokitary, means a female ready to breed. Lol

Males do not show breeding bars - ever. These bars are a way I identify females before fins show significant differences. Very helpful when breeding PKs.
