Aww man I have a tail biter

After months of thinking how lucky it is that I have 6 bettas and none is a biter, Jetta ate off half his tail last night. Boo :( Going to change up his tank today and see if that helps. How lame.

Argh I know right? Spirit used to be a biter but he stopped as he got older. It was such a pain to keep it in check while it lasted. I hope he improves for you.
Bubblo is biting his, and I don't know what to do. He is in an 7ish gallon with one Olive Nerite. I threatened him with a customized plastic dog collar from the vet, but he just doesn't do as I say:cry:
Vincent is a tail biter. I have found that by arraigning his tank differently and feeding him a bit more food. also putting his tank back by the window he has stopped and has regrowth!
It took forever to figure out what was wrong with him too. :p But the little goober is a bit neurotic. Im not sure which worked but I'm pretty sure it was the food. It was just his way of saying you aren't feeding me enough.
It can't be the food for Jetta. He's on my work desktop, so the little pig gets fed three times a day since I sit 1 foot away from him. He gets plenty of interaction. I do 70% water changes twice a week. I even have action figures that I set around his tank nightly in different positions so he can enjoy their company. What an ungrateful little jerk!
Spoiled little brat!!!
I feel your pain. I have one that gnaws his tail like crazy. We've tried small single tanks, filtered, non filtered, larger divided tanks, tanks in busy areas, tanks in less traveled parts of the house, more items in his tank, less items, more water changes, fewer water changes, less food, more food, everything I can think of and STILL he's chomped his back tail so short! Good luck with finding something that works for yours
Got to work from the 3 day weekend, and Jetta has definitely done a bit more biting, although it's very minimal. I think the tea is helping maybe? I'm thinking that if he continues this, I'll switch him to a new tank. I have a spare 8 gallon at home that I've been meaning to fix up - got it used, and it's filthy. Poor dumb little fish.
Some white regrowth today, yay! I have been keeping the tea bag in Jetta's water, and I added a big new anubias and some kind of a cryptocoryne (I can't keep them straight). Maybe having some new stuff to entertain him will stop the insanity.
He may not like how big his tail is that sounds like what's going on. You can't do anything about that (that I know of).

Hooray for regrowth!
I get worried that my boy will start to bite his tail off since his tail is so heavy. Nothing yet but I hope it stays that way...

Hopefully your little guy will realize how lucky he is to have such a loving owner and stop biting his beautiful tail!

Hahaha, if only. I wish you luck with him and hope you can find what his problem is. silly fishy
My little betta Pentecost started doing the same thing this past weekend.Bought him a new filter and came back latter and saw part of his tail was missing. I was so worried that he got sucked up the filter and ruined his tail. Turns out he likes to wrap himself around the filter and when he sees his own tail he decided to trim it back a bit. On the bright side he trimed his whole tail evenly so it does not look that bad :/
My betta is a tail biter and he has been all his life and he's a year old now.
Jetta hasn't eaten any more of his own body off, woo! He is now showing white/clear regrowth along the entire length of his fin. Hopefully that was an isolated incident. I didn't really do anything other than bring some more plant clippings in from home and got him a couple more friends to position around his tank - some of my daughter's My Little Pony figurines. (They are on the outside of the tank before anyone freaks out).
