Hi all! New here, but not to bettas. I've had tons of splendens, and I've had an imbellis pain living happily together for several months. I've also got a coccina male that's living with endlers until I find him a girlfriend.

I'm setting up a new tank finally, and I want a group. I'm thinking either hendra or persephone.

Tank is 15g, pH 6.5 (I have coral in right now to let it cycle, it can drop to 5 if I want). TDS 100, 77*, and heavily planted. Do you think either species would be happy in here? What are the male/female ratios for each species? Could I have a pair of each or would they cross breed?

Thanks!

15 gallons is fine for a pair or possibly a trio (one male to 2 females) of both species. I would recommend to stick to one species. Betta hendra and Betta persephone are both part of B. coccina complex, so they can interbreed. They can also have conflicts between each other.

Your parameters seem fine and with lots of plants basically any wild betta species feels comfortable. You might want to add Indian Almond leaves to add tannins and make the tank more natural.
