I am upgrading my tank, (see other posts for more details) and want to get a filter that is quiet, since my tank is right next to my bed. Some hum, like the one I have now, and I’d like to get one that isn’t built into the tank. I’ve heard bubble filters are nice for tanks without built in ones but they can be loud, but I’m curious for some recommendations.

Oh sorry yeah, I’d be doing a 5-10 gallon. I had a 10 and it was a little on the big side for where I’m putting it but I’ll check this one out!

My tanks are at the end of the sofa where I sit. I have a "tank table" instead of an end table. The other two 10 gallons are a bit above and behind. Two are divided 10 gallons with a Marina S10 in each section. The one closest to me (about a foot) also has two. No issues with using that filter in the five-gallon sections because they are so adjustable. They work really well in my Filter Feeder tank.

We never hear the filters. Quietest I've ever owned. My husband even mentioned it and he's usually oblivious to the aquariums. 😂
