I got the betta leaf hammock from PetCo. I actually thought this was the one without the metal piece since I didn't see it from the get go.

I took the leaf out to clean it and noticed some brown residue (rust?) inside the rubber suction cup as well as rust around the plastic tip (almost looks kinda burned) that usually goes inside the hole of the suction cup. I noticed then that it indeed did have a wire.

Is this horribly dangerous?

What should I do? It's by betta's favorite resting place so what would be a good replacement if need be?

She is in a 5 gallon unfiltered tank with 1 weekly water change.

I have betta leaf in my tank as well. When i bought it i saw the metal wire and using pliers i removed it. The metal will eventually rust in the tank, and the rust can hurt your betta. I recommend removing the leaf and trying to take out the wire, if not get a new one and remove the wire from the get go to avoid any rust. Hope this helps.

I saw this thread and quickly checked my betta hammock but mine has a little plastic cap that goes into the suction cup and I don't see any metal. I was hoping by looking at mine i can see how the metal can be taken out, but that didn't happen :/. I'm not sure how the leaf is set up but maybe if you have some pliers or similar tool you can get a good grip on the wire and give it a good tug and it'll come out. Hope that helps, if not maybe petco will let you exchange it for a one without the wire?

Can you pull the leaf out of the suction cup? I was able to do that to mine and it took a while but with pliers i removed the wire, and then carefully placed it back into the suction cup.
