Symptoms and Treatment:
When did you first notice the symptoms? About a month ago, his tank exploded with protozoa, so i filtered them out the best I could and did a large water change in fear that this was the cause
How has your Betta’s appearance changed? There is a protruding spot alone his spine, that is discolored. It seems to possibly be improving, or changing. There is now the red/white splotches beginning to grow. I am not sure if this is more damage, or if the area is healing.
How has your Betta’s behavior changed? He seems to not have changed in behavior very much. He has never enjoyed swimming often. I have had him for approximately 2 years, and he has always stayed stuck in a plant or the filter intake (doesn't cause traction or pull on him much) , but is always happy and active when I come to the tank to feed.
Is your Betta still eating? yes, very well
Have you started treating your Betta? If so, how? Yes, when I saw all of the protozoa, I thought that they may be the cause of his illness/damage, so I began dosing with metronidazole properly. I also began using Kanoplex, in thoughts that it may be a bacterial infection. I did not continue this for too long, because I did not want to damage the water parameters and beneficial bacteria, and i did not see too much change, although I may have not have treated long enough.
Does your Betta have any history of being ill? no
How long have you owned your Betta? 2 years
Was he or she ill or suffering some sort of damage when purchased? no
