Bettas had no vibrant colors like we know today just brown and blue fish did you know bettas have been domesticated for a 1,000 years and are one of the longest
domesticated fish these fish have been bred to look more vibrant more color variety bigger fins no one will ever find a betta like this unless you go to their home and look very hard actually wild bettas are going extinct slowly and are vulnerable species their homes are being taken for farm and town land
What where bettas bred for?
They were initially bred for aggression and subject to gambling matches akin to cockfighting. Bettas became known outside Thailand through King Rama III (1788-1851), who is said to have given some to Theodore Cantor, a Danish physician, zoologist, and botanist. This is what our bettas we love and care for where made for gambling (aka human greed) I don't get the point of killing these amazing fish for greed bettas originally got their name from the bettah warrior tribe and then brought to cockfights atleast now bettas are cared for and not for fighting
