Well I guess I'd be wrong if he was never obese or anything but it sounds like you fed him an awful lot... 3-4 pellets twice a day? Bettas should only eat 3-4 ONCE a day :/ It seems like you did everything else right...

Oh my gosh...I didn't know that. Those were the instructions I was left with months ago when he was dropped off. He may have been obese and I never knew it!

My boyfriend's betta did this too, he died a few days after being given to my boyfriend as a birthday gift. I took care of the betta for a little over a month and fed him almost the same amount as you did for Buddy. I was watching his tummy and it didn't expand all that much, I guess some bettas can stomach a little more than others.

I hope someone will come with an explanation of what happened, I am fairly certain this experience has scarred my boyfriend from ever wanting a fish again, we loved him so much.

I feed mine that much, but on Fridays he only gets fed once a day, not at all on Saturday, and once on Sunday. It gives the fish a chance to digest/pass all that food! :)

awww I'm sorry ! Sounds like you did everything right & he had a good life.
Maybe it was just his time...He could have been on the older end when you got him,
and if from a pet store, already at a disadvantage healthwise since those suppliers
treat them like crap. :( Don't get discouraged from fish keeping!

:( I'm sorry

hmm, was your tank cycled? Looking at the params, I'm worried by presence of nitrites, which might point to something happened to your cycle, which might have been the cause.
