Lately I've been taken to playing with my betta while I'm sitting at my desk so he doesn't get so bored and lonely. He gets really excited and wiggles all over the place when I wiggle my fingers at him or dance in my chair to some good music, or even when I talk to him. But I noticed that he doesn't seem to react to my movements until a second or two after I make them.

Do fish have some kind of delayed sight or reaction time, you think?

I'm new to betta so I can only base from mine.

I have Hiko and he responds to me right away. I'm positioned so that the fish tanks face where I work/sleep. If I so much as change how I sit, Hiko will go to the side of his tank facing me.

Lark has to have the finger wiggle on the surface. I also had to call him or tap on his tank to get a response.

Have you tried it on your other bettas?

I haven't noticed this. Even when I watch them interact with each other, sometimes I don't even SEE what happened because they moved so quickly. Maybe the light refraction on the water displaces you through the glass, so it looks like he's a second behind?
