Aqueon minibow1 filter can be used for a 5 gallon tank? or its to weak and has to be used for only 1 gallon. I tried researching this and can't find any information on it.

I was originally going to buy a 10g setup, but my betta has become less active in a few hrs. I'm worried for him. hes still eating and comes to me when I open his tank hood. but now he just lays there. I checked the thermometer and it said 82 on it, but i placed my finger in the water to pet him and the water was oddly cold. Not freezing but just not as warm as it should be. I realized that the cheap thermometer the petsmart associated gave me is not accurate. As i lowered the temp in my room and it still stood on 82.

i also had a heating pad but idt its working either. And he has become less active and I'm worried its due to low water temp.
I'm going to buy another heater (exchange) and a better thermometer this morning, but i really want to upgrade him ASAP. I don't have enough money for a full setup (10g), but since i already have the filter from this minibow set and its being unused, I was wondering if I could use it for a 5 gallon and just use that as I still have gravel. While I try to maintain a good temp for him in the 1 gallon for now, i could allow a proper cycle for the 5 gallon. 5 gallons are very cheap thats why im looking into getting that and remove him quickly.

Also he scared me, he swam very oddly and stood on the side and his top fins drooped down and he actually tilted over. :-( I tapped on the tank and he didn't respond to me, usually he does. But he eventually did get up and gulped for some air then went and dropped back down. I don't want him to become ill or die.

no you cant use it, the aqueon minibow 1G uses a "small" size filter and the 5G one use a large filter, am assuming you could probably pop it in there but it wouldn't filter correctly

may sound like your heating pad isnt working, did you leave it in or take it out?
ok I guess I will have to look up filters then for a 5g tank? are they expensive?

I left the heater in thinking it was working, but I removed it this morning as the water was cold when i went to feed and pet my betta. I did do a water change, but he started acting like that before i did the water change.

am not exactly sure if the 5G uses a medium or large filter but a 6pack medium online is $6 and a 3pack large is $8 , which isnt bad at all

i would leave the heater in there , it might be work just very slow, and you said you had thermometer issues too, what kind of heater is it? the round pad ones?
its a square pad low watt. not to fry my buddy. I had it on the side wall of his tank. I left it in for a day and the water was still cold today. As far as thee thermometer, in petsmart the associate recommended the stick on thermometer that you put outside the tank. I asked how is that going to check the temp fo the water on the outside? She said the water will be the room temperature. So i for some reason believed that. And the thermometer always stays on 80 my room is hot, but I got a heater as recommended by fellow members on this forum. I noticed it went up to 82, but when i checked the water was cold. so i took the heater out and my room is now cool to check if the thermometer is crap and it is. its still on 82. i lowered my room temp to 68! Never going to petsmart again!
yea, the therometer needs to be on the inside of the tank
