I bought a Betta last week but it developed a case or what I believe was columnaris and died yesterday. There are some Oto cats in the tank where the Betta died so now i am wondering if i need to treat the water where the Betta was to prevent the Otos from also getting this bacteria.

Would Bettafix (from API) normally be a good treatment for Columnaris (seems to be based on some research I did) and would it also help other fish than Bettas?

Thanks.

I have found most people around here do not like bettafix. There are much better ways to treat disease. I would not use it on the otos. I don't have experience with that specific disease, but I wouldn't treat fish that are not sick. That does way more harm than good. Do a nice big water change though.
