I got a new Betta fish, Rufio, from petsmart almost a week ago. I knew that he had some fin rot, but I wanted him anyway. I treated with a good filter and aquarium salt. Now, almost a week later, he's still has black edges on his fins, but a stripe beyond the edges of his fins is clear and his fins never did look very tattered. He also has a great appetite and will try to eat anything that he can fit into his mouth! I'm wondering if I should go with another medicine (ex tetracycline), or whether his fins have healed and the black fringe is just part of his coloring. I don't want to keep using aquarium salt for much longer because I've heard that too much exposure can hurt the fish.
