Hi all,

My female betta has always been swollen with eggs, but I wonder if I should be concerned? I saw someone suggest that an eggy betta should be fasted to get her to absorb the eggs, but now I can't find that post. Here are a couple of pictures. She gets 5 to 6 NLS. 5mm pellets a day, so she isn't being overfed.

When I posted a thread a few months ago similar to this, the advice I got was, to completely fast her for a few days. The lack of nutrients causes her to reabsorb her eggs for nutrients for survival. My female reabsorbed her eggs on day 3 or 4 of fasting. Fasting will also cause her to shed off the few extra pounds. To keep the weight off, like others are suggesting, cut down her food intake slightly. That should solve the problem.
Here was my post with the replies I got: http://www.bettafish.com/showthread.php?t=600049

Last resort would be to put her near (not in with) a male. The sight could cause her to release the eggs. I haven't tried this though, and it will likely stress both parties, so I would definitely keep it a last resort. Technically the eggs aren't really hurting her long term but just weighing her down, so if neither works, it's not overly alarming and she should eventually release them on her own, it's just taking her a while :)
