I have a fish
with one gill stuck open. I was wondering if anyone else has experience with this. How did you treat you fish and how soon did you notice a change in the gill itself.
I purchased several fish on AB and they were shipped from thailand. Upon arriving in miami fl, they were shipped "Over night" to me. Usps lost them for a day and instead of holding them in the post office as asked, they were left on my porch in theFL sun. The two females seem to be ok. One has a gill that wont quite close all the way. One males fins looked like they were beginning to rot and he has laid on the bottom for a couple of days, seems to be getting better. Then the male with the stuck gill. He seems to do everything fine except slight fin tattering and the stuck gill seems to be working harder than the other.I have them all in cups so I can insure clean water and watch them close. I am using water aged over night with aq salt, aqua safe, and black water extract. 100% water change every day for the first two days, then skipped a day. its now day five I believe and the gill is still stuck. I was advised to use tetracycline but can only find 10 gal powder packs. Hard to keep 10 gal of mixed water on hand without taking up a tank.

Not sure what medicines would do for a stuck gill... I have one male, who kind of has that... Skull... His right gill seems to stick out more, and has a spot where it sticks out more than the rest, and it does look weird. But he doesn't complain :)

He could have been injured... I know my Shiloh took a bad beating to the side of his face before I rescued him. Being shipped, can lead to causes like that - or you never noticed it for pictures when the breeder sent them?

For medicines however, take the powder out. Divide it into 1/10, and use 1/10 per gallon :) I used maracyn 2 this way.
