I was wondering why some people fast their bettas once a week or so... what are the benefits?
At the moment I feed my bettas four pellets every day and don't fast at all, they seem to be doing fine.
Should I start fasting them once a week?

Hi Starburst44:

Some fishkeepers fast their fish one or more days a week as a way to stave off constipation (which is a serious medical condition in fish because of their anatomy) and to put a check on possible overfeeding.

Fish are pretty efficient in how they use energy, so daily feeding of a mature carnivorous fish is not necessary in most cases. Your bettas would probably be fine if you gave them a fast day, even though you're obviously not overfeeding them.

I'll let somebody with more betta experience chime in with their views, but if your fish are healthy, happy, and not overweight, it may not be necessary for you to change your current regime.
