Yesturday I went to petco and got a heater there. It was petco's brand, it worked horribly. :cry:It wouldn't even turn on when I plugged it in, and I read the directions like 50 times. I got a in-tank thermometer and it has a little suction cup thing so it doesn't fall off. Right now my temperature is 76 degree F. The sun came up a little while ago, but it's not too bright out. It's about 8:40a.m. for me. Do I need heater? (I have a 10 gallon tank)

Also, yesterday I tested the pH. It said 7.2 (7.20). Is that okay for a betta, because I've read in the book that they like 6.5-7. Is that a problem for now because I don't have any of that pH down chemicals for now.

I would look around for another heater. I use the Marineland Stealth visitherm. Its a very good brand that was reccommended to me. It may be a little more expensive but worth it. Also, you don't want to mess with your ph.7.2 is fine. Its better to be a little high or low than to have fluctuating ph because thats worse for your betta than a ph that is a little high or low. Hope this helps.
