Good morning from the Canadian Prairies!
Just a quick question here, but my filter is a submergible, and it is powered by an air pump. It's old... I think from 1994 or so...
I use activated carbon in a filter bag on the bottom, and poly wool on the top.

Lately, I have been noticing that my filter has been spewing carbon, so I checked the filter bag, and it had a hole... So I flipped it over, and it was fine for a few weeks, and then it started spewing carbon AGAIN on Sunday. I unplugged the filter, and it's been off since then, but I don't know what to do! Whenever the filter is unplugged, the water is cloudy, but Pinyin builds HUGE bubble nests...
So should I leave the filter out? Or should I change the bag and carbon?
(And a gravel vac... I'll grab that tomorrow)

I'd get a replacement filter bag, and try that. They usually sell them in single packs at your LPS for your brand of filter.. just make sure to get the right size. :)

I have another one with the fish supplies under the sink. Thanks!
HOPEFULLY This one won't be stupid and rip... Other wise, it's the filter that's the problem, and I'll have to buy a new filter...
(Which would be a good excuse to buy another tank...)
