I have some questions (I might become a new owner, I want to make sure my future bettas will be healthy)!

If I get a five gallon tank, would it be better to change the water often or just get a filter? If I got a filter, what kind would be appropriate (please give me a link)? If I don't buy a filter, how often would I have to clean the tank?

If I do do with the option of cleaning my tank often, would the bettas be healthy if the tank wouldn't be cycled because the tank water was replaced often? Could someone also give me an article on cycling a tank?

Lastly, should I use aquarium salt?

Thanks for all of your help! :)

You will need to change the water regardless of whether you have a filter or not. Here is a good link on how often and how much you should change depending on your tank size and if you have a filter or not: http://www.bettafish.com/showthread.php?t=115758
Here is a link on cycling: http://www.bettafish.com/showthread.php?t=111960
Aquarium salt is meant for treatment of skin abrasions, fin rot, skin infections, etc. only and only for a maximum of 10 days. Do NOT use it continually, in the long run, it will do more damage to your fish than it will prevent. I have seen a fish that had its fins burned off due to salt usage - not a pretty sight.
