I asked this before, and was told it could be normal.

I have a filtered 3 gallon planted tank with a Betta I have had for almost a year now. The filter is slowed down as slow as possoble. Sometime about 6 months ago he seemed to start fin nipping. But I am worried it is something else. He still eats and acts like himself for the most part. Although he stopped making bubble nest over the past three months.

I have been told it could be normal, could be stress, could be sickness. I would like to find out for sure.

A couple side notes, sorry using my phone so hard to edit. I detected an ammonia spike and have been doing 50%,water changes every other day to combat it. It was just a small spike to .5 ppm or whatever the third result is on my APIfreshwater test kit. Normally I do 50% changes anyways. I am using nutrafin for Betta in my water. Feed omega one.

The nipping or whatever has been for a while now, but seems to have gotten worse. Another things that has gotten worse is his mini freak out moments. Sometimes he will just spas out and zip all over, to the point he actually hits my lid.

But otherwise he still eats and does his other normal routines. IDK, just want to make sure I am doing everything possible. Sorry for the poorly written post, hate using my phone for this LOL

I suspect that many of the tail nipping could be due to parasites. Your fish darting could be another sign of parasites.

The nipping I would't worry about... the spazzing I would. Can you get us a picture?

Should I get some better pics? He goes from eating to not eating every other day now. I make sure to take out what he doesn't eat.

One thing diff is the pH used to be 7.4 or 7.6. In both my Betta tanks since I switched to nutrafin Betta conditioner and put in a banana plant in each, the pH has dropped to 6. No other reason I can think of as my pH in both my community tanks is still 7.4 and 7.6.

Nope. Other than losing some of his fins he seems the same size to me. And typically eats all the time. Jus now started to not eat as much.

Usually I feed once a day 10 pellets every day except Saturday. Nothing on Saturday. I heard it it good for fish. Maybe I am wrong.

I feed Omega One pellets. Perhaps I should start mixing it up with something else? I have heard of freeze dried blood worms or something like that but I also read that sometimes those go bad so I never touched them.

Dried blood worms aren't AWFUL - think of them like fast food. Use sparingly. I think 10 O1 pellets a day is a bit much. Fasting is only really needed if you're using low quality foods, but it can't really hurt.

He may just not be hungry! I'd cut down to about 5 a day, see if he eats better when he's not stuffed to the gills!
