Hello! I'm not new but I realized that I never introduced myself. I've kept bettas essentially my whole life, though my husbandry really reached a new level back in 2019, and even more so during the pandemic. In college, I majored in biology with a specific focus on ecology, evolution, and animal behavior so if you want to talk that sort of thing or want help sifting through academic papers about a specific topic just let me know! And I currently work in a laboratory where I process samples for veterinarians... gotta fund the fish obsession somehow!

As for my fish, I currently have 5 domestic betta splendens:
- Amadeus, male HM. I'm not sure how much longer I'll have him as his quality of life is rather poor right now due to his massive fins... poor guy.
Reptile Turtle Terrestrial animal Snout Tortoise

- Newt, female HM. She's a lovely fish and loves attention.
Plant Light Organism Terrestrial plant Grass

- Cricket, female koi plakat. She loves to stuff herself silly and is very spunky.
Water Eye Vertebrate Plant Organism

- Pikmin, male koi HM plakat. He has some weird deformities but he's a sweet guy.
Plant Pollinator Insect Arthropod Butterfly

- Lastly, Loki, male blue marble HM plakat. Unfortunately, he appears have some lumps forming already, but he's a lovely energetic boy so I'm hoping I'm mistaken.

I also have other fish-- I have a 40 gallon community tank & I have a group of breeding wild bettas, Betta edithae. I'm going to be bringing home a pair of another wild betta species soon but that is for another thread! Here's a photo of the community tank, sorry it is a bad panorama! It has 2 pearl gouramis, corydoras, and silver tip tetras.

I also have a cat named Bug, pictured here.

And lastly, I have a mischief of rats! Who live in a room that Bug can't access (not taking any risks, even if Bug is a wonderful girl). I'm not including photos right now because I know some people are scared of them but if it is not an issue, I'm happy to share some photos.

Okay, hopefully that covers the bases! Thanks for reading this far!

Welcome😀!

Very sweet to introduce yourself and all your adorable critters. I‘m a Bug fan right away🥰! And a Rhaphidophora fan as well (spotted behind your community tank😉).

Looking forward to your continuously experienced input and your latest Wild Bettas!

Hello.
Your bettas are amazing. And I love your 40g. Wish I could avoid algae - really want to make an "aquatic jungle" like yours.

Though I'm not a cat person, your cat is so cute. . . . I am definitely not a rat person and don't find them cute, sorry.
Thank you! I'm sorry about your algae issues, I have a little bit in that tank but not thankfully not excessively so. It's at that nice point where it gives the shrimp something to nibble & just makes it look more natural, without taking over the world.

Bug is definitely a cutie and a great cat & that's fair with the rats! They definitely aren't everyone's thing.

Thank you! There are four-- Chicken Nugget (she was abandoned by a McDonalds so I had to go along with that), Lemon, Maple, and Poppy. Here's a recent photo.

Hehe, I could always post in the section for non-fishy friends and spam it with ratties, I have a lot of photos of them! And nice! It's very interesting and can explain a lot. The best part is that it's really accessible too, just find an animal you want to observe, get a pen and paper, and you've got a start!

Thank you! Bug is huge sweetheart & I'm very thankful to have her in my life. And good eyes! I have a bunch of plants both in water and out.

I love hearing about your wild bettas, you should post about them more!
