Yes, love the tank - hate the lid. All the evaporating water collects on the lid and if you don't wipe it down every day you get like a whle film/salty/residue. Since it's clear plastic it looks totally GROSS.

Yeah, the 5. You don't get like water standing on the underside of the lid? I do, and if I don't wipe it off constantly - it makes like a white film/residue that you can't hardly get off. It's really gross. My husband said the water evaporates so fast out of it because I keep the house like 69(f) and the tank is set to 79(f). I'm not all sciencey so whatevs - seems to make sense. I guess. I have to add about 1/2 a "koolaid jug" every other day so what is that .. a quart I think.

No I don't get that stuff but yeah my apt is usually pretty cold so the water doesn't evaporate to the surface. Im jealous though I wish I would have gotten the five gallon

Hahaha, your video made me laugh when you said Kong was trying to be sexy -- ouch though when Mini just turns her back on the guy. Also, I find it interesting that your snail gets out and then comes back to the tank (possibly more interesting than is warranted?). Do you ever figure out where he goes?

Sort of unrelated, but...it's good to hear positive reviews for the Marineland Crescent 5 (I'm assuming that's what you have). I'm wanting to get one for Sharkfin later on, so I like hearing that people are liking theirs.

Isn't that weird? I've talked to a couple of people that also have snails and none of them have ever heard of a snail getting out. But I googled and apparently they can live for up to 7 days without water

So far:
I have found him once by stepping on him
once I found him about halfway across the dining room chugging along under the table.
and once ( a few days ago) I just happened to glance over and notice him climbing up the outside of the tank to get back in.
No idea where he goes, or why. The longest he's gone missing is 2 days (like I noticed him gone when I fed the fish around 7pm and he was gone all the next day, still not there at night feeding - but was back the following morning when I got up and turned the light on)

I was worried about him at first - because some people have said bettas will eat snails, but Kong doesnt nip at him at all. Mini did, so that why she was alone on her side of the tank (before she got sick, when she was in the 5). Kong just swims up to him and gives him the "look" like he's saying. "We're good for now, but if you try to eat my food - I am going to eat YOU". He never nips though. He's a good boy. LOL Anyway, now I worry about him getting out. I have 2 pugs and if one of them notices the big black thing moving across the floor they will see if it tastes good. They eat ANYTHING. I noticed when he came back this time - his "antenna" things are tiny, like they fell off. They're not gone, just before they were crazy long and now they are tiny. I need to google that. I think either something got him, or maybe he got into bug spray? We have ORKIN and he sprays really well right over there by that sliding glass door. So that's another issue to worry about with him. Stupid snail.

Hahaha, that is great. I have heard of them getting out and so warn customers at work that a lid is probably a good idea with them – actually, the other night I was keeping an eye on Cumberbatch because he was getting close to the opening in the tank for feeding (he veered off though). Good to know they can live out of the water for so long, I had heard that they could but never for how long.

Too bad you couldn’t attach a little camera to him to see what he gets up to after he leaves…that’d be pretty interesting I think. Or a little tracking device, that’d be cool, too. Then you’d always know where he is as well.

I hear ya on worrying about a dog eating him: I wouldn’t put it past my own to “investigate” if she found one of the snails. Though, not as worried as I would be if I had a cat currently…

The point where Kong stared at him cracked me up too: Sharkfin does the same thing to Cumberbatch occasionally. Especially that first day (when he was eating the crumbs he had left from eating the snail’s food, by the way). I thought it was hilarious. Kostya pretty much goes on as if Benedict isn’t even there from what I’ve seen.
