I keep ghost shrimp in virtually all of mine. Cherries are too pricey to lose, so I only have them with my most tolerable boy in an exceptionally heavily planted tank.
I also keep snails, they're very fun but do get pretty big. In my 10g with a *very* friendly/no aggression betta, I keep cories, ottos, guppy fry, and two snails without issue. This will not work for all betta fish temperaments, so attempt at your own risk and with sufficient coverage.
