I kind of want to get my betta's tank some tankmates. This is the first betta I've had, and I don't really know what I'm doing. His tank doesn't currently have a filter, so I need something that doesn't have a heavy bioload. What would yall recommend?

Nothing. There's nothing suitable for a 2.5 with no filter and with a filter just a snail.

Betta are solitary fish. Any tank mates are for us; not them. I say this having had Betta-based community aquariums for 40+ year. If you want tank mates get an aquarium at least 24" long but 30" is better so all have swim length appropriate for their species.
