I just put my new 25w Hydor Theo heater in my 2 gallon tank. I was unsure if it was working so I placed it in a bowl of cold water, and held it (yes I know I'm not supposed to put my hand in water with something you plug in). Anyway, the heater got hot to touch, I KNOW I KNOW, it's a HEATER and apparenly doing it's job, but should it be that hot? Can I put a heater under the rocks in his tank so the warm water will move upwards and won't risk him touching the hot?

It was likely hot to the touch because you put it in cold water, so it had to work hard to raise the temperature. I wouldn't put in under the rocks. Some heaters you can, but the Hydor Theo is not one of them. It shouldn't get nearly as hot to the touch in the tank as it wont have to work as hard.

thanks! I was thinking that too, but wanted to hear it from someone else. I couldn't tell if the indicator light was working, so that 's why I put it in the cold water...needless to say, it works....
