I just bought a tetra 50 watt heater. It said it was good for 2 -10 gallons and I have a 2.5. I was wondering how I insert this heater in the tank with the betta already in it? I don't want to shock him. I just moved him to the 2.5 he was in a .5 for a week until I could afford a bigger one. I don't want to take him out and stress him again. Thanks

I know which heater you have and I suggest testing it first. Grab a 2 gallon bukcet or bowl, and put it in and let it run. I have a few (non-adjustable) tetra heaters and they work nice, but you should always test them first.

Once you see it is not despositing slime (not to be confused with protein sludge), tinting the water, the chemical or rubbery smell, a burning smell, etc you can add it to your betta's home. It will heat up slowly, as it is set to do so
