hi. if my fish experience could be graphed on a scatter plot, it would be so far off the chart, it would be a tripping hazard in the Mariana Trench. I adore my sweet precious angel, the premium rosetail betta named Swim Shady, and his menace of a "sister", Alfredo the ghost shrimp. jk, we all love Alfredo. that being said, i think i have worried about Shady having at least 14 diseases or issues, because i love him so much and i want him to be healthy. every time he does something, i think he's sick. you all will probably be seeing a lot of me in the fish care forum. please be patient :)

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I love Swim shady's name!! Its really fun!

And no worries about asking questions! That's what the forum is here for! We've all been there, and we all still worry about our finned kids whenever we think something's up!

As Animals15 said, we'd love to see pictures of your kiddos if you would like to share!!

Hi @#realswimshady! Welcome to the forum! This is the best place for people with questions! There are lots of experienced betta keepers here. We all started out somewhere, so we definitely understand what it is like to be just starting out.

There were two things I found helpful when I was at that stage. 1) Keeping up with water changes is the very best way to make sure your fish stays healthy. This thread is a really useful tool for knowing how often to change the water in your tank: Oldfishlady water change recommendations (note: 100% water changes all at once can be stressful to fish and shrimp, so it's best to do two 50% changes about an hour apart). Keep a testing kit handy and if you have a concern, test the water. If ammonia or nitrite are over 0 or nitrate is over 20, do a water change.

2) If your fish is eating normally, he is probably fine. If he's eating normally, but you see something that concerns you, just copy and paste this Betta Emergency Form form, answer the questions, and we will be happy to you out!
