I've heard bettas will get into amazing spaces and it's true. I came home today and couldn't find Max, I searched with a flashlight, finally took lid off and found him in his filter. I had just changed his water 2 days ago and apparently I put too much water in and it was at the same level as the outflow. He had shimmied in and was swimming in the little tight area by the filter. I got him out and noticed a scratch/missing scales on the top of his head, also small tears on his ventral fins.
(And I can't get my pictures to upload-dang it)

Keep the water as clean as possible. Do water changes every day to every other day. Maybe like 20 to 30% of it. He should heal up fine. I had one of my bettas have this issue but it was much MUCH worse. Mine did not make it through the night but seeing that yours is just a scratch, he should pull through. Keep using the IAL. Not sure about the stress guard but if it helps and you see no paleness in his color then keep adding it. <3 I hope he pulls though! He's a young one too so that's good.
