ES won't help with fin rot - can we get a picture? He may in fact be biting!

I believe under gravel filters are pretty useless... If you're down with the level of maintenance, I would chuck it, and just do manual ammonia removal...
If the rot has halted, I would skip on the AQ salt... it's really only good at knocking the bacteria out, not helping fin regrowth. If you really want to get something, API Stresscoat helps with regrowth.
