Hi everyone!

I'm afraid my betta is dying. He has fin rot and I can't stop it with medicines. I'm not able to do a proper cycling of the tank. Now he is in a little tank (less than 1 litre) until he recovers. Now he has all his body covered with a red/brown coloration, like burnt (and his original color was blue/turquoise) and has an ulcer on his head. He has lost almost the whole of its fin and is weak, he doesn't moves but suddenly very fast. The only good thing is that he's still hungry. Today looks a little better. He was the most of the time trying to lay on the floor of the tank but sometimes he couldn't because the back of his body started to float.

Housing
What size is your tank? 25 litres
What temperature is your tank? 28 degrees Celsius
Does your tank have a filter? No, I can't use it because he is too weak to resist any current.
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? No
Is your tank heated? Only in the Winter. Summer is too hot here (31 degrees Celsius).
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? He's alone.

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? Betta flakes Tetra, Tetramin, Novofex (Tubifex) JBL
How often do you feed your betta fish? Once or twice a day

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change? Once a week
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 50% and still is dirty.
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Aquasafe Tetra, sometimes cattappa leaves or catappa X easy-life.

Water Parameters:
Have you tested your water? Yes, with stripes. And all parameters are normal but I'm starting to think that the JBL stripes test doesn't works.
If so, what are the following parameters?

Ammonia:
Nitrite:
Nitrate:
pH:
Hardness:
Alkalinity:

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? Yes, he has lost almost the whole of his fins, has his skin with a brown/red color and has a kind of ulcer on his head
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? He's breathes with a little difficulty and he's the most of the time without movement and suddenly starts to swim very fast.
When did you start noticing the symptoms? Now it's worst but actually since I bought him a year ago.
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? I tried different products. Dajana multicure, Tetra fungistop, Tetra generalcure, JBL Ektol fluid, Ektozoon N. Everyone different times, not all together. But nothing works.
Does your fish have any history of being ill? Yes, he had fin rot since I bought him and intestinal occlusion a couple of times.
How old is your fish (approximately)? A year.

I would appreciate any help. He's my first fish and I'm desperate. Sometimes I think that he would be better in a smaller tank. It seems like any type of bacterya harms him. It's very difficult to maintain the tank clean with only one water change per week.

Thanks.

You need ti put him in his original tank as the ammonia is what's killing him, and fin rot doesn't need medications, do daily 25% water changes and add prime water conditioner and you should be fine, also be sure to make the temp of new water to tank water.
Can you get a picture of him?
What are the water parameters in both tanks?
The cycel in the old tank is most likely gone if nothing has been in it for more then 2 weeeks because it hasn't had a ammonia source to feed the bacteria.

Om just saw you use strips.
Test strips are inaccurate for 2 reasons, they don't have a exact number for parameters and they get moisture on them from the air which changes the color before even been in a tank.
Can you get a API master test kit? Its is a very accurate liquid test kit, its cheaper then strips in the long run too as you get 800 tests from one kit.

Ok, that looks like severe ripped fins, fin rot turns the edge of the fins white, what decorations do you have?

You put him.back in his old tank or to the small tank?

Link doesn't work.
What ornaments/dexor do you have in the tank? Bettas have very delicate fins and some decorations will snag there fins and rip them.

Ok, did you do the pantyhose test? Take a new pantyhose and drag across the decorations if it snags or anything it isn't safe.
Put him back in his bigger tank asap and do A tank flush 4 50% water changes with a 20minute gap inbetween them, match the temp and add the eight amount of prime.

Last 2 photo links don't work
Ok have you had the heater and filter on?
Do the tank flush then add him and do 25% water changes every other day.

Ok, without the filter toxic ammonia will build up and kill him, turn it on asap and get some filter sponge and put it in the output of it to lower the flow.
By now the cycel maybe dead so get the API master test kit because most likely will go thru a mini cycle ao you need to know your water parameters.

To post directly into a post go to "Go Advanced" and scroll down to "Manage Attachments." It's easier to reference if the photos are in the thread. Plus, as noted, the last two links do not work.

We need exact numbers on parameters. I have found that test strips are as accurate as liquid and always get the same reading when comparing liquid and strips. However, I recommend liquid because they are easier to read, much cheaper in the long run and if not kept dry the strips can become less accurate. The most important thing right now is to get a liquid Ammonia test. Your water change schedule is not so bad with a six gallon tank.

Ammonia does not turn water white and foggy. You can have crystal clear water and out of sight Ammonia so don't judge water quality by the water's color. When you did water changes did you vacuum the substrate or just dip the water out? A 50% water change should not have left the tank dirty. Which tank is he in now? How many litres/gallons?

You've treated him with so many things I'm not sure what to tell you to do now is as suggested keep his water clean.
