Housing female bettas in community tank.

Hi, I'm new to betta keeping. I have a male betta who had been living in a community tank with a BN plec, 5 albino black neon tetras, 5 cherry shrimp and a salfin Molly. They're in a 55 litre tank but he's gonna be moved to a 25 litre along with some of the shrimp.

I was thinking of introducing 1 or 3 female betta fish after I transfer dredd (the male). Was wondering the best way to do this and was seeking some advice for 1 or 3. I've read there needs to be lots of hiding places and I got some plants, real and plastic as well as an ornament and some driftwood. I plan on getting more plants like java fern and anubias.

its to even out aggression. Female bettas can be housed together in a sorority set up. If you put 3 in a tank, two will bully the weakest one. If you put two in together, one will bully the other. You want at least 5 so that a hierarchy can be set up. One female will become the alpha female and the others will all fall in line.

That being said, sororities are extremely dangerous. They have a high failure rate. You have to be prepared to see aggression. Even after months of the sorority being in place. There will always a possibility you'll come home to a dead fish from the others attacking her.

You don't have room to do a sorority in that tank with your existing stock (55l is not very big... Just under 15g for you Americans). I would get a single female and maybe a couple more tetras, but especially with the pleco and molly there just isn't room for a sorority.

Oki thanks for your reply. I think for now, with the size of my tank, I'll get one Molly. I thought initially before I posted that 3 females might be ok. but now I know that 5 is an absolute minimum, I would look to get a larger tank to house a sorority. Probably post again when I get the money for that set up! Haha.

In terms of introducing her to the community... Same as other fish? Leave in the bag in the tank for 15-20 mins with some original water and some tank water to get her accustomed to the tank? Or is there another method for bettas like floating or suction f
