I lost my betta Nymph Phlox and I think it may have been because most of the plants I put in my 5 gallon with him were floating in one mass. I found him right in the middle ontop of it. I don't feel comfortable getting another betta until I can fix that issue. I have water wisteria, anubias nana and java fern. Literally 1 of each is actually planted in the gravel. Anything I can do to anchor them down?

You can use plant weights, or tie on driftwood or aquarium safe rocks.

Did you test the water after the betta died? I remember you added frozen hornhort in the tank. Dead plants can cause an ammonia spike especially in uncycled tanks.

I kept removing any brown parts of it. I don't think it was the water because I was doing a 25% water change every other day. Someone did say that about the dead plant spiking it so I thought 25% should have been enough. I dont have a test kit so no i didn't test it. I'm saving up to get a master kit since people say their the most reliable type.
