How do you adjust a Betta to light? My new one was in a pitch black area of the shelf when I got him. He had huge stress stripes and looked upset. When I got him home he swam a bit but when I turn my bedroom light on he freezes like its too bright. Did I hurt him by doing that? How so I get him used to light. He's a beautiful super delta. Atleast tests what the receipt said.

you shouldn't turn tank lights on for at least 24 hours when you first get them home as it is a stressful time for all fish. Try adjusting him slowely buy having the lights on for increasing amounts of time. Say half an hour on day 1, 45 minutes on day 2, an hour on day 3 etc. adjust to what you feel comfortable with. If you have any stress coat or IAL handy, it will help with his settling in and adjusting period.

I'm sure you can yeah. I havn't got a light in my betta tank yet so I've been using a table lamp temporarily. I will have to get a tank light soon as he's in a fairly dark corner and I have live plants on the way. Will you be having live plants?

Live plants are great if you decide to get them in the 5gal. They are much much softer for betta fins. Also, they grow quickly and provide better cover from the light. Silk are just as good for smaller tanks. Only really plastic you have to worry about because they are more often than not, quite sharp . Plants do become a bit addictive though! I've been looking at plants a lot lately.
