So, it all started today when i got my new female VT betta. It started out with a lot of flaring from my CT male but he got used to her. I noticed later that my new female was trying to get past my divider (which she did a couple of times) into the males side! (he had no bubble nest) he didnt mind or chase her or anything so it was ok. Im not thinking of breeding but i was wondering if this was some sort of 'courting' bettas do they try swim with eachother against the divider and she is ubsessed with getting through! I need some advise plz and does my female want to breed or something?

During courtship both (male and female) will try to approach each other and swim like "follow the leader". Most males will nip the female - some may even beat her half dead. But your male sounds docile.

When they want to breed, they swim in a wriggly fashion - what I call "flirt swim" or the "S" pattern. If you have other bettas, you can compare the way they swim when you flare them. Or if you only have those pair, you can look at youtube and compare their behavior - between courting and fighting.

What would be the difference between "fight" swimming and "flirt" swimming?

From what indjo says fighting would be more like chasing while
Flirting would be dancing i think.

In a way, you could say that.

When they fight, they just come head on to what ever and keep their position/stance. But when they want to spawn, they swim all over the tank in a wriggly or "S" fashion. If both (male and female) are in spawning mode, one will follow the other all over the tank, until the male decides to bite which will make the female hide..... it's hard to explain. It's easier to understand if you look at youtube videos.

I have a picture :) This is a still picture of Spartan "dancing". they wiggle back and forth, kind of like they do for food, just some bettas do it a lot slower and more purposeful - showing off

Lol its kind of the same for me except trying to use a net to catch my boy, but my girl dosnt mind the net at all, the first day i got her i could put my finger near her and she would do nothing. They kept the females in a sorority she was the one who was nipping fins.
