Whenever I leave him in my room with the lights off & I come back in and check him, he has stress stripes ): Once I turn on the lights for about 30 minutes he's back to his normal bouncy self with no stress strips. However, I am worried about him because he never really acted like that until I put an air stone into his tank. That was the first time since I had gotten him from the that he had ever striped D: I'm guessing it might have traumatized him & now he likes to know his surroundings? I'm not sure .. I feel so bad /: It's gotten to the point where I even got him his own little nightlight to put beside his tank

Does anyone know a way where I could make him feel more secure & safe? He lives in a 2 gallon heated tank (I'm sorry it's a little small but I got him when he was a "Petco Baby Betta" so I didn't want to get something very big )

Any help or advice will be much appreciated <3

my betta, flo is also similar like yours :-D
he has stress stripes every time i leave the room with lights off
so i discovered that he hate darkness

for that, you can equip your tank with a lamp. or if you keep your fish in a modest tank (without lamp), try to put a small lamp near his tank. it can be your desk lamp, night lamp, or anything.

he will be very happy for that :-D

When I first got my betta from a co-worker as a gift he was in a 12 inch tall rectangular shaped glass and he stayed in the office that was lit and active 24 hours a day. I knew the poor guy rarely got a chance to sleep. A few days later I brought him home and put him in his tank. I leave his tank light on for him during the day. Around 8 P.M. I turn off the tank light and turn on a LCD battery operated tap light that gives off less light but more than enough so that he can see. By 11:30 P.M. its light out. I did this so he knows the transition from day to night time. Just as he would if he is outside living in the wild. This worked perfectly. No fuss No muss No stress.
