Hi everyone,

3 months ago, I came home from being away for a few days (with an automatic feeder), and I noticed he had a pretty noticable buldge on the left side of stomach. At first I thought it was probably bloat due to the automatic feeder, so I got peas and fed them to him a multiple occasions. But this did nothing. Over the last three months, his tail has slowly gone to shreds (it was SO full and beautiful before!) and his bulge is getting bigger. He lays at the bottom of the tank most of the time. He DOES have a pretty good appetite still, he chases up the tank for the food. I give him 3-4 pellets a day, 6 days a week.

He's alone in a filtered, heated, 5 gallon tank. I do regular water changes (about once a week, 30-40%).

No spikes coming out of his skin (I heard this is a sign of swim bladder disease)?

I've attached a couple pics.

Any help or advice is much appreciated!

Wow, he looks extremely boated. You need to fast him for a couple days, meaning, do not feed him anything. Can we get a picture from the top please?

I actually just fasted him for 3 days, as I was away for work and thought it would be a good opportunity to try that again. It doesn't seem to make a dent.

Tried to get a pic, he does alot of hiding nowadays, so it's pretty tough. He can still move around pretty fast if he wants, but I can tell it tires him out. Last night he was laying on his side breathing pretty heavily. :(
