Yeah, this is my first (known) time with ich and I'm trying to treat it. Currently I've got all of my fish in the container I use to transport large amounts of water for changes, along with the tubing for the air pump and heater turned up to ~82ºF.

I do not not have any water testing equipment but it's just tap water without treatment besides 2/3 teaspoon of Coppersafe. I took Moon and the big guppy (still nameless) along with an oto into the PetCo we go to and the guy there ID'd ich on them. It looked like Moon was the first to get it because it looked like his slime coat went into overdrive and got air bubbles caught on his tail. The big one looked similar, but laying on the floor all the time (and he is still), and one of the otos had two weird, white things on his/her head

Boyfriend wants me to keep the container they're in now on as official iso/QT tank for the fish, including the heater and tubing.


My questions (for tl;dr):
-- How long should I keep the fish in the QT? I know for at least as long as it takes for my other heater to come in and then nuke the temp in the 10g, but... beyond that I'm clueless.
--- How do you know it's totally gone? From what I've read, snails can carry it but they can't 'get' it. I figure on leaving Honey and the pond snails isolated for some time until I think it's gone and I know I'm going to have to get rid of the plant or keep it elsewhere.
-- How should I do water changes? The big thread says 100% changes daily, but I can't do that so well with this container. This is what they're in.
-- How often should I dose the water?
-- Random, but how do you sex otos? Can you?

And it's looking like Moon (black/blue and white) has some stringiness coming off of his tail? He's an active one so it's hard to tell. I could only see it once because he won't quit moving, but I can definitely tell that one side of his tail is getting more bubble-like stuff on it.

Buried to page three and now one of my guppies has fin rot. Part of his tail fin is black. I need some help here guys. I got some help with how long to treat it and how much to change and put back in. Now I need help with combating fin rot. C'mon guys. Three or four of my boys has it and potentially one oto and I have no idea on the rabbits.

The best way I've treated Ich is to raise the temp to 86F, every other day water changes with a good vacuuming. Some people will add salt but not sure your oto can tolerate salt. Some people use meds such as Rid Ich. Leave the heat up for at least a week after you see the last spot. Leaving the tank without fish will kill off the Ich but you run the risk of losing a cycle without an ammonia source & some meds will kill your BB. The fin rot should go away with clean, warm, conditioned water.

Alrighty, thanks. I've moved them from the pictured container to the 10 gallon because of the fin rot and everything that I can find says that it's contributions are from stress, poor water conditions and existing conditions. About 7-8 fish in a 3-4 gallon? Eech. I wasn't fond of it before and the fin rot was the last straw. I'm hoping my boys make it but I'm not too confident in the big one...

Yeah that's a lot of fish in small container. You can treat them in the 10g & it'll be less stress on them. Good luck with it, hopefully everyone makes it.

Yeah... think I know exactly who's marked for death... guy looks like he's got powdered sugar on him and his tail is half gone into black
