What is going on with my fish? They are in new tanks getting treated water changed every other day around 25-50%. They both are getting whitish/brownish around their gills. What is causing this I really don't want to lose them.

They look healthy to me. Maybe try doing a little less for water changes. They might have some pale coloring due to stress.

Hi freemike, sorry for the delay - my computer crashed. How are your guys? Do they breathe okay? Are they acting normally? As long as they're acting normally and breathing all right, the discoloration is probably normal. Most bettas have some discoloration around their gills. If they AREN'T breathing normal, then go ahead and put them in 1 tsp of Epsom salts per gallon found post back. Hope they are both okay.

They they act perfectly healthy. Swim around, eat, and blow bubbles all the normal fish stuff. I just wanted to make sure they didn't have something and waited to long to do something about it. Thanks for the reply Sakura.

I second the whole color changing thing. I had a red Veil tail that stayed with me recently and he had that gray/brown stuff going on. Normal as long as they are acting right no worry's. Betta's change color in mysterious ways. They look great.

Sounds like they're both doing well, then. Definitely keep me updated if anything changes. Glad they are both okay.
