I got this beautiful blue CT about a month ago who was a rescue-buy from a LPS in a cup and quite neglected. Put him in a nice 5gal home with clean water and his color improved and fin issues improved. About a wk after having him I noticed whitish area over his very dark face. Then noticed same under his jaw. Thinking cottonmouth or columnaris. Water changes for a week. No change. AQ salts and water changes. No change. Cairo still very active, voracious eater. Fungal treatment. No change. Erythromycin treatment. No change. Today on closer observation, I see a similar coloring over his back. I think this is just his coloring coming out! It's actually a beautiful irradescence over a dark face, happens to be in the same distribution as cottonmouth.

Thank you sweet Cairo for your tolerance and patience!:)

I think so- He's got some beautiful very light coloring on his lip, jaw, and down his backbone. His other darker colors have really popped out too. And for a petstore CT, his fins look quite great. And all this time he's looked at me like 'what's your problem, why are you turning my water erythromycine green lol. And feed me feed me.' Never any spread of symptoms or fuzziness. I've got a good 10 days where I can watch him like a hawk, so I am going to stop treatment and see what happens. I can always re-initiate treatment. Hoping for the best!

Littlegreen I've never quite been able to get good pics of my bettas:( I am still working on that- would come in very handy as many times I would have liked to post pics for help diagnosing disease.

He is stunning (i'm biased) for a CT- His name is Cairo b/c his crown really does look like an Egyptian head dress.

It's a common mistake, don't worry... Of course it's scary when your betta decides he needs a change of colour. My old betta has a grey face, but its just coloration, I found out. I'm glad it wasn't serious! :D

Lucky dip bettas lol!

Yep Cairo must've been marbling. I stopped treatment over a week ago and he's like "phew! Finally she's stopped trying to treat my colors!"
