Hey guys!
So my marineland penguin 100 filter hasn't worked for a few days now and I thought I'd give Indian almond leaves a try. I know its best not to use them with a carbon filter so what kind of filter can I use? Or none? Just regular water changes?

I recommend a new filter. You can use any filter you want. Carbon is not a necessity in an aquarium. It loses it's effectiveness in a short time. I and many others don't even use it.

You should get another filter ASAP. You are going to lose your cycle, so now frequent water changes are going to be part of your life. Not sure of the size of your tank, you can use this a guideline,

I have had the most success with sponge filters. There are others, but my return to the hobby has been an overwhelmingly positive experience due to the discovery of a good old fashion sponge filter.

I keep IAL in my tanks at all times. No complaints from my fish.
