So I discovered my fish has internal parasites I was watching and she had what looked like white poop hanging from her belly I knew that wasn't normal. So am going to see if I can find that jungle food. if not what else can be used? She lives in a 1 gallon heated tank. Being just noticed today, her poo was normal last night. I think i caught it early. What causes parasites and what can I do as a preventive so it doesn't happen again? But now I am worried about the guys in my other tank. They all share a bucket that I use for water, and her cup that she sits in has been dipped into the bucket when I am doing smaller water changes. Is there a possibility they can catch it? If there is should I also give them the medicine. I hope to get it tomorrow if I can convince my mom to take me to the store. And if I can't find the jungle food what else will work to get rid of the parasites?

Thank you

Was the poop stringy or chunky? Usually if it's chunky, it's not parasites.

Start her on some epsom salt at 1 tsp/gal to get her to start pooping. This will help you see if it's an issue or just a one poop thing.

With females, they often either drop eggs and eat them, causing white poop, or absorb them internally, also causing white poop.

Get an parasite medication to have on hand just in case, but watch her for another day before treatment.

You can only prevent parasites with good conditions as they are always in the aquarium or fish. They can only infect if the immune system is weakened, so good conditions usually prevent it.

Okay. I will keep an eye on her. Don't have salt, but will watch her closely. It may have been eggs as it looked more chunky. Having her two years never noticed her drop eggs. Thanks for the info. Never considered eggs. She just seemed to act a little different like she was flaring at me. She never flares, she was also hanging around the heater, but once I noticed the white stuff gone she seemed a little more energetic.
