My first pair of wilds arrive later this month! I have read that channoides need iron supplemented in their water, but didn't see any information that got more specific than that. I wanted to know why that was and if Seachem Flourish root tabs were acceptable. The tabs have 2.2% iron and the liquid supplement has 0.32%.

I kept and bred B. channoides in the past, and never supplemented iron. They were healthy, constantly spawning, and produced living fry (although they didn't live for too long as the female would predate them).

I didn't even realise some breeders did this, until I did a quick Google search just now. I personally don't believe it's necessary to add iron. If it were, I think it would be mentioned much more frequently on wild betta oriented forums and FB groups.

Interesting, thanks! I found it strange that the few sources saying they needed iron said it was absolutely necessary, but didn't say anything about why or how much was needed.
