So about a week and a half ago I got a halfmoon betta. I've always had a thing for white fishies and for a long time have wanted to get one like one I had 11 years ago, but I haven't seen one anywhere near as beautiful since. (10 years ago I had a snowy white betta, with indigo/red fins and dark eyes, red gills and I bred him with a cute crowntail.)

Anyway I was watching him swim around, he's quite active and noticed he had a red eye! We're not sure if he's blind in it or what, and its kinda spooky looking.

I waited patiently to snap a picture of it so I could ask, if he's a true albino or what's going on here.

Albino or not, this is Moondrop, (Halfmoon Betta) Only one of his eyes is red, and it's not the easiest to see the red, it depends on the angle you see him at.

I can't find a way to edit my post to let me add a second pic, so I am just gonna add this so you can see him flaring out.

You can't see the red in his eye in this one but I am pretty sure his red eye is blind. He swims oddly sometimes and I think it's to use his good eye to look around... and when I was showing him a mirror to get my flaring photos he only seemed to respond to the mirror if it was on his black eye's side.
-- Also, when we interact with him he seems to like to face us with the black eye, so it was really hard to get photos of the red eye and to show my roommate it.

He looks like an albino due to the red eye but I think true Albinos have both eyes red. He also looks exactly like my halfmoon betta Kumo :) My boy isn't an albino since he has black eyes but is white as well. Maybe they're related hehe.

I doubt he's an albino. There's only been two (I believe) recorded cases of albino Bettas, and they didn't live long. I think if he was truly an albino, he'd be the rarest Betta in the world, and also dead by now.

Side note: He is absolutely gorgeous though. I've always wanted a white Betta.

The caudul fin doesn't reach 180° I don't think, the anal is a tad long. He might have good offspring if bred with a good female. However, I'm no expert at that I reccomend posting a thread in 'Show Bettas' asking about form.
