Hi,

I purchased Siva, my newest betta, last Monday and he started eating on Thursday. During that time he was still fairly normal in his movements and such.

In the past couple of days he has laying on the bottom on the tank amongst the rocks. He still swims around actively at times, and eats normally.

Housing
What size is your tank? 2 galloon
What temperature is your tank? 79F
Does your tank have a filter? Yes
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? No
Is your tank heated? Yes
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? None

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? Hikari Topical Bio-Gold Betta (small sized pellets). He wont eat the bigger pellets that my other betta loves.
How often do you feed your betta fish? Twice a day, morning and evening. 4-6 pellets

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change? Once a week.
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 100%
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Nutrafin Betta Plus Tap Water Conditioner (I have separate jugs of water and treat the water about 3 days before water changes)

Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters? No.

Ammonia: n/a
Nitrite:n/a
Nitrate:n/a
pH:n/a
Hardness:n/a
Alkalinity: n/a

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? Hasn't changed since I adopted him
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? Lays on the bottom of the tank frequently, but still swims normal and eats normal.
When did you start noticing the symptoms? Friday
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? I was told that if I saw a change in behavior that it is safe to put some medication in the water (Marder CopperSafe - for ick,velvet and other external parasites)
Does your fish have any history of being ill? Not sure.
How old is your fish (approximately)? Not sure I got him last week.

Something to add, he was kept around white cloud's in the pet store, is there a chance he could be lonely? The keeper their said that sometimes they like the community environment.

Welcome to the forum.....

I wouldn't recommend using the coppersafe- especially if you ever plan on adding any shrimp or snails...sometimes the residue can kill them years down the road.....anyway, if he is otherwise acting, eating, swimming, responding to you the behavior may be normal behavior for him....

Or it could be-

The filter may be too strong and this can limit swimming/patrolling the tank as well-again, this varies from Betta to Betta.....you might try turning the filter off for a few days or remove it all together since you are doing 100% water changes anyway....generally with a filter you don't need to make 100%, however, filter or not.....I would increase the water change schedule to twice weekly to maintain water quality....

In a 2gal filtered without live plants-50% twice weekly-1-with substrate cleaning and 1-water only-filter media needs as swish in old tank water a couple of times a month.....
Without the filter twice weekly...1-50% and 1-100%
