Pretty sure that's a boy. :p Wait for an opinion by someone with more experience than I, but I've never seen a female betta with fins like that. Also, I don't think the gills are anything to worry about. Have you noticed any difference in behaviour? Laboured breathing? Frequently going up for air? How frequent are your water changes?

It's a girl, she was purchased with other females and she also has a egg spot on her belly. :)

No changes, she's still feisty she still eats, she acts completely normal and responds quickly. I change the water weekly and check the water every half week.

She does tuck her fins up so it's hard to tell, but when she stops swimming she lowers her fins. In one of the photos you can see the egg spot. :)

Another good indication is her anal fin doesn't point at the back. It's pretty straight :)
Congrats on your baby girl! I'm not sure what kind she is I am almost guessing she's a HM or maybe a delta ... I'd look those up online and see :)

Thank you! I got told more HM, but I'll have to find out when she flares. Does anyone know if I should be worried about her gill colour?

I wouldn't she seems fine, and personally I don't see anything wrong there.
Just make sure she has clean warm water. If by chance you notice anything wrong with breathing let us know, I highly doubt it tho :)

At the moment they're in unfiltered and unheated bowls, but the temperature up here makes up for it. In a months time they'll be in a properly heatered/filtered tank so perhaps she'll change then. All my babies are breathing fine and I usually catch on to something so small but she never had a problem with her discoloured gills. I'm sure I'm just paranoid but if there are any changes I will be sure to quickly post!

She is, she's such a rough girl though. :p
