Would he have a visible bulge if he had? If he did, do they pass them and get better?

A couple questions;

It sounds like you're doing more frequent water changes lately?

Is it possible he ingested a snail?

Along with lowering the water level etc if you aren't already you might dim the lights and decrease the time that they are on, to help him feel more comfortable.

I'm like you, I hate to think that his days are done, but in the other hand I just don't have a good idea of what else to do for him if he won't eat
