I have had my fish for about a week my fish seem fine, it was eating a little and very active. It would come up to me whenever I came up to the tank. He lays down at the bottom of the tank on his side most of the day and only comes up for air. I also have another fish and he seems to be getting used to the tank but he hasnt eatin since I got him.

Are you positive you added the dechlorinator to the water the last time you changed it? How much salt did you add? Bettas really do not need salt unless your treating them for an illness or fungus. Did you make sure all the salt was dissolved before adding your fish to the water?

It might be a good idea to do another water change, this time with NO salt and make sure you use the dechlorinator.

85 degrees sounds little high to me for temperature. I think 80 is supposed to be ideal.

85* a little bit high. Especially if you ever have fish with fungus it just will get worst with high temperature. Fungus love warm water and will spread.

Stress coat is good idea.

I don't understand why you adding water conditioner and balance plus. What water conditioner are you using? Don't overdose them...

Now you are saying the water temp is 85* but you change 100% . What was the new water temperature? If new water temperature difference more then 6* betta can go in shock. Especially if you are saying he get like that right after water changes. So there is something with water.

If they still alive i would change 50% of the water and see if it helps. But again i don't understand why you are using water conditioner and something else.

Also you can buy thermometer strips $2.19-3.99. Those strips you can stick on the walls outside of the tank. It very sensitive and will show any temp changes when you change the water...

How is your bettas? Is there any physical symptoms?

Also you wrote that one betta lay on his side , is he bloated?

Also there is special instruction for aquarium salt when you add it. And it depends on the symptoms either you need aquarium salt or Epsom salt.

I also think that your betta is in the stress. 100% change of water every week is harsh for your betta to adapt (if considering for the instant pH changes and temperature). In my opinion, temperature 75 is ok for me. Try and feed it only once daily maybe can improve the situation..

I have thought this as well. But I've seen VERY experienced betta care takers recommend this to the users on this forum. mostly just for tanks around 1 gallon tho.
I would think 50% change twice a week is a better option

to the OP: 85F is quite a bit too high and 75 is a bit low for my liking. My bettas have been kept in temps of 80-83F.
It may have been possible that your fish are unhappy in the salt. they do not need salt unless you are treating illness. Overdosing a lil bit on conditioner like products isn't going to hurt much unless you overdose by like 5 gallons. Overdosing with medication is a totally different story.

I suggest doing a 100% but SLOWLY (over the course of an hour) acclimate them to the new water. Meaning float them in their cups and add ONE tablespoon per 15-20 mins. Then let them out. do NOT use the salt. And please make sure you use conditioner. I have stupidly not used conditioner before/have even had times that I do not remember if I added any.
